Wordpress.com and Wordpress.org Blogging Sites
http://www.HandyBlog.com – Wordpress.com is the free hosting version and Wordpress.com is for self hosting. I recommend starting with Wordpress.com and then once you understand how Wordpress works then start a self hosted blog.
Wordpress.com is the free hosted version of their blogging application. If you have your own domain name and hosting you will want to go to Wordpress.org
If you have a Wordpress.com account you will have domain name like http://www.handyblog.wordpress.com but if you host your own domain using Wordpress.org software you can have the direct extension of your domain name which would be like my blog http://www.handyblog.com
The benefit to having your own blog is the ability to customize it to fit your needs. If you have a Wordpress.com you cant really do much besides blog and use generic themes, widgets, and plugins.
Wordpress.org has thousands of free themes, plugins, and widget modifications. Wordpress blogging application is the most user friendly way to blog online.
You can also make a lot of money blogging. Just signup for Google Adsense or CJ (Commission Junction) and add advertisements to your blog. The more traffic you get the more money you make. Thats how many blogs earn a profit is from advertisement links, banners, and direct selling of products and services.
Once your established and have a few blog posts your going to need some help getting listed in Search Engines.
Start with Google and Yahoo, checkout Googles Webmaster section. Here you can submit sitemaps, add your url to their search engine for indexing, and also learn about vital SEO tactics to getting more Organic traffic. Organic traffic is basically visitors that find your website by searching in Googles browser.
To see if your website or blog is listed in Google go to Googles search box and type (site:http://www.handyblog.com) and click search or hit enter. This will give you results for all of your indexed pages. Of course you want to use your domain / blog name and not Handy Blog.
Make sure to add tags to your post and understand that your title tags are the most important factor in getting website traffic from search engines. Have titles that reflect what someone might be searching for. As an example you might have a title that says. How to make money blogging but you have a hard time getting any visitors so you try a title like How do people with blogs make money? This phrase will be more targeted at what your visitors are looking for and if your post has tons of quality content related to the title search phrase then you will likely get higher search engine ranking.
